Lip Sync

This is one of those weird conversations you have in your mind, when you're up too late doing work. It's been an interesting year, learnt a lot about animating and hope to keep improving.

Puppet Run Cycle

I learnt a lot from my walk cycle exercise. I find the timing and movement of the puppet simple enough but the exaggeration is tricky. I didn't quite nail it but I definitely had more fun than with the frame by frame walk cycle attempt I did earlier.

Walk Cycle

Why is his head a cube you might ask? Because this was a frustrating process so I started to think of him as a blockhead. This is my first front walking walk cycle and boy does it show, I can definitely do better than this and plan to in the future.

Weight Exercise

It's still a rough. This animation went through several versions one with someone digging up treasure and the man holding the box struggling to hold it up as it got heavier and heavier. But there's always one thing that remains consistent Captain Buffbeard has treasure senses and he knows when people are trying to steal his stuff. They say he can sail across the seas in 5 minutes.

Head Turn

This one's a rough draft still, there's a lot of volume control issues so I'll need to go back into it and fix it at a later date. The character expresses my mood. Lately I've started to wear hats in school again to hide my facial expressions when I'm in a bad mood.

Pantomine Sack

I have no idea how the sack got up there but the mystery is part of the fun. Overall, I think this animation is "alright" but could be pushed further with some of the exaggerated elements. I wish I had enough time to draw the picture frame falling onto the laughing sack so that it got its comeuppance.

A short 2D animation featuring the bouncing ball, with dolphins and bird. Syncing the dolphins with the ball timing was kind of a pain. The ball also turned out really rubbery or like a water balloon it also has time stopping powers apparently cause the bird just kind of stays there. I didn't want to draw the bird falling into the ocean like it naturally would because that would be depressing. I'd like to imagine that the extended cut has it angrily squawking at the dolphins for a while.

Gian's Unsafe Safe Space

Who am I?

Most days I'm Gian, some days I'm a vegetable.

What do I do?

I try to make stuff... Okay to elaborate I make stuff for animations, meaning my skill set is located more in the design phase of animation, both in 2D and 3D. My 3D knowledge is located purely in modeling. Overall, I'm much more experienced with 2D media, particularly drawing. Though I tend to favor drawing characters, I am trying to improve on developing backgrounds as well. I also super duper enjoy digital painting.

What I expect to learn?

Although I'm relatively familiar with the overall process of 2D animation, my execution of the craft needs a lot of guidance and there's a huge amount of room to improve.
